Contralateral Abducens Palsy in a Case of Zoster Polyradiculitis
Nam-Hee Kim
Department of Neurology, Seoul National University College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea
Abstract
A 54-year-old woman with zoster in the right cervical region developed isolated left abducens palsy. She also had extensive polyradiculopathy in the right side. CSF examination revealed varicella zoster virus DNA, while magnetic resonance imaging of the brain showed no significant abnormality. After treatment with acyclovir and prednisolone, her symptoms completely improved. We report a case of cervical zoster with contralateral abducens palsy and suggest vasculitis or concomitant reactivation of VZV in the contralateral trigeminal ganglia as its mechanism. KeyWords:Cervical zoster, varicella zoster virus, abducens nerve palsy
